How Families Can Listen, Support, and Take Action

Learning that your child may be experiencing bullying can be upsetting. Your response can help them feel safe, supported, and comfortable sharing more. Start by listening calmly and giving your child time to explain what happened in their own words. Let them know they did the right thing by telling you.

Next, document relevant details. Save text messages, emails, screenshots, social media posts, usernames, dates and any other information that may help explain the situation. Avoid responding to harmful content or contacting the other students involved directly.

Submit the concern through Epic Charter Schools’ Awareity reporting platform. You don’t need to decide whether the behavior officially qualifies as bullying before asking for help. Share as much information as possible so the appropriate school staff can review the concern.

Keep checking in with your child after submitting the report. Pay attention to changes in their mood, behavior, relationships, attendance or school participation, and communicate with the appropriate Epic staff members as needed.
