Five Steps You Can Take To Prevent Bullying

If you experience or witness bullying, your response matters. Start by refusing to participate. Don’t like, share, forward, or encourage harmful messages, images, videos or posts. Even a quick reaction can cause the content to spread, making the situation more harmful.

When it’s safe and appropriate, save information that may help explain what happened. This can include messages, screenshots, usernames, dates or details about where the behavior occurred. Don’t put yourself at risk or continue engaging with someone simply to collect evidence.

Next, tell someone you trust. Talk with a parent, caregiver, teacher, counselor or another Epic staff member. Students and families should also submit the concern through Epic’s Awareity reporting platform so the appropriate team can review it.

You don’t have to decide whether the behavior officially qualifies as bullying before asking for help. Share what happened and allow school staff to evaluate the concern in accordance with Epic’s bullying policy.
