What Is Bullying? Understanding the Signs and Behaviors

Bullying Is More Than a Disagreement
Bullying can include electronic, written, verbal or physical conduct toward a student that meets the criteria outlined in Epic Charter Schools’ bullying policy. It may happen online, through social media, in text messages or group chats, during virtual interactions or through written, verbal or physical behavior.
Not every disagreement, conflict or unkind interaction is bullying. Each concern should be considered in the context of the behavior, its impact on the student and Epic’s bullying policy. Students and families aren’t expected to make that determination on their own. If a behavior causes concern, ask for help by speaking to someone or submitting a report.
Speaking up gives school staff the information they need to review the situation, provide appropriate support and take the necessary actions if needed. Students can also speak with a trusted adult, teacher, counselor or any Epic staff member.
Need Additional Support?
Students and families can submit bullying concerns through Epic’s Awareity reporting platform. For instructions, review our “How to Report Bullying” resource.
