The Beginning, The End and Everything in Between

It’s been said that in life, as with all things, balance is key. Keeping both ends of a spectrum in harmony is a challenge we all face, especially in education and especially at Epic Charter Schools.

As the state’s largest statewide virtual charter school, our students and families simply will not benefit from a one-size-fits-all approach. They need choices that fit their unique needs, learning styles and family dynamics. Epic focuses on the beginning, middle and end of the educational lifecycle.

It’s with this in mind that I am proud to share with you two Epic programs that provide genuine balance: Beginnings and Pathways.

Epic Beginnings is a free family-support program designed to prepare young children for academic success who are from birth to age 5 who reside in a household with at least one Epic student but who are not Epic students themselves.

As we build the Epic Beginnings Resource Library, know that it will contain materials that focus on such skills as early childhood literacy, communication, math and science, nutrition and overall well-being services that place a strong emphasis on learning through play and development of the whole child. In short, we want to help every Epic parent help every child prepare for their first day of school, whenever and wherever that happens.

Sometimes, the first day of school begins later in life, and Epic is here for those learners, too.

Our Pathways program specifically caters to students ages 21-25 who have not yet obtained a high school diploma. The program began with an inaugural class of 20 students and is open to anyone in this age group looking to obtain a high school diploma free of charge. This program has been expanded to serve 100 students for the current school year.

If necessity is the mother of invention, then innovation is most certainly its father. By keeping this delicate balance of need and forward-thinking momentum, Epic is in a unique position to serve every Oklahoma student who needs school to be different.

Until next time,

Bart.
