About the Club
Welcome to the World of Chess!
Welcome to the Epic Charter Schools Chess Club! We are excited to bring students together to learn, play, compete, make friends, and—most importantly—have fun with the game of chess.
Whether you are brand new to chess or already an experienced player, you are welcome in our club! Chess is a great way to develop critical thinking, problem-solving, strategy, decision-making, and confidence while enjoying healthy competition and meeting other Epic students.
Meetings:
Chess Club meets are in zoom on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month. Please check your Google Calendar for the invitation. You may only join from an Epic Charter School email address.
Beginner Chess Club meets at 2:00 PM on Tuesday and Advanced Chess meets at 3:00 PM. You will get a gmail calendar invitation based on your level.

What grades can participate?
All Epic Charter Schools students in grades 3–12 are welcome to join!
You do not need to be an experienced chess player. Beginners and advanced players are encouraged to participate.
When does the Chess Club meet?
Chess Club meets online through Zoom on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month.

Our online classes are divided by experience level:
2:00 PM – Beginner Chess Class: Designed for students who are new to chess or are still learning the fundamentals.
3:00 PM – Advanced Chess Class: Designed for students with more chess experience who are ready to develop their skills and prepare for competitive opportunities.

Come to the Beginner Chess Class, ask questions, practice, and have fun learning!
What are the requirements?
There are no fees and no mandatory attendance requirements for joining Epic Chess Club.
You do not have to attend every meeting. Come when you can and enjoy learning and playing chess with other Epic students.
We simply ask that everyone:
Be respectful and polite to other players.
Follow good sportsmanship.
Be respectful in the chat.
Remain muted during tournaments if you are observing rather than playing.
Chess Tournaments
Chess Club will provide opportunities for students to learn, practice, and compete.
We plan to have teaching sessions and tournaments through Lichess.org, including Swiss-style tournaments within our private Epic Charter Chess Club group.
These tournaments are a fun way to gain experience, play against students of different skill levels, and prepare for more competitive chess opportunities.
We will also have an end-of-year tournament.
Chess Esports & Competitive Opportunity
Want to compete for Epic?
Epic Charter Schools is excited to offer students an opportunity to participate in chess esports and competitive chess!
Students interested in the chess esports opportunity will need to participate in the Advanced Chess Class. The advanced class will help students develop the skills, experience, and competitive knowledge needed to represent Epic Charter Schools in esports competitions and other competitive chess opportunities.
This is a great opportunity for students who want to take their chess skills beyond casual play and compete against other schools and players.
More information about upcoming esports competitions and competitive opportunities will be shared as details become available.
Can I compete in other chess tournaments?
Yes! Individual students may participate in local and state chess tournaments with parent/guardian assistance.
The Epic Learning Fund may be used for eligible chess-related expenses, including tournament entry fees for qualifying Oklahoma State Chess Organization-sanctioned tournaments. Families should check current Learning Fund guidelines for eligibility and purchasing requirements.
Students interested in tournament play and obtaining an official chess rating may also participate in regulation tournaments. US Chess Federation membership is not required to join Epic Chess Club.
How do I create a Lichess account?
Students who want to participate in our online tournaments will need a Lichess account.
Create/register for a Lichess account using a parent/guardian's email account.
Log in to Lichess.
Go to the Community menu and select Teams.
Search for Epic Charter School.
Click Join.
Enter the club code/password provided by the Chess Club.
Once you are a member of our private Epic Charter Chess Club group, you will be able to participate in our club tournaments.
How do I join Epic Charter Chess Club?
Ready to join us?
Each student in a family must be logged in to their Epic Charter Schools email account when completing the form. This helps ensure that only Epic students and families have access to our club meetings and information.
After joining, students and families will receive access to the Epic Charter Chess Club information page and future updates.
How will I hear about Chess Club events?
Chess Club announcements, updates, tournament information, and other important information will be shared through Epic email and calendar invitations.
Please keep an eye on both the student and parent/guardian email accounts for updates throughout the school year.

Chess Club is about more than learning how to move pieces around a board. We want to create a community where Epic students can:
Learn and improve their chess skills.
Challenge themselves.
Develop critical-thinking and problem-solving skills.
Practice sportsmanship.
Make new friends.
Experience healthy competition.
Represent Epic Charter Schools in competitive chess and esports opportunities.
Most importantly, have fun!
You do not have to be the best chess player to join us. You just need to be willing to learn, play, and enjoy the game.
