About the Program

The mission of the Epic Gifted and Talented Program is to identify and provide students who possess exceptional qualities the direction, time, encouragement, and resources to maximize their potential. Whether it be in the area of intellectual, creative thinking, leadership capacity, visual and performing arts or in other specific academic areas, this program exists to meet the needs of every student who takes part. 


Students who have received this identification are offered various programming options depending on their grade to support a holistic, well-rounded learning experience while attending Epic Charter School.

Program Requirements: 


What is the Gifted and Talented Program? 


Epic Charter Schools Exceptionally Epic Gifted Program identifies and provides educational experiences for students  who have demonstrated abilities of high-performance capability by scoring in the top three percent on any national standardized test of intellectual ability. This definition may also include students who excel in one or more of the following areas:

  • creative thinking ability

  • leadership ability

  • visual performing arts ability, 

  • specific academic ability



Any student who attains a composite score in the 97th percentile or above on a nationally standardized test of intellectual ability will qualify for Gifted Services. Epic Charter School uses the Olsat8 and the NNAT3 to qualify students, but accepts other full-scale intelligence tests as approved by the State Department of Oklahoma. The Epic Charter School's Evaluation Matrix is used to qualify students for gifted services in the areas of Intellectual/Academics, Creative Writing, Leadership, and Visual/Performing Arts.

When Is Testing:


Identification is an ongoing process, with testing offered throughout the school year as needed. To request that your child be tested for gifted services, please contact  your child’s teacher. A student may test only one time during a school year.


Exceptionally Epic Gifted Offerings

Identified gifted students in elementary, middle and highschool  are provided gifted services through the following:

Elementary

  • Free Renzulli Enrichment- project based learning

  • GT only Epic Live Classes

  • Monthly Enrichment Newsletter

  • Enrichment Support for Teachers/parents and students by our Gif ted Specialists, Laura Heffley and Ashley Covington

Middle

  •  Free Renzulli Enrichment- project based learning

  • GT only Epic Live Classes

  • Monthly Enrichment Newsletter

  • Honors Curriculum through Apex Learning

  • Enrichment Support for Teachers/parents and students by our Gifted Specialists, Laura Heffley and Ashley Covington

High School

  • Honors Coursework through Apex Learning

  • Advanced Placement Classes- AP (Advanced Placement) is college-level courses and exams you can take in high school.

  • TEL Concurrent Enrollment-TEL is an Oklahoma City-based organization that offers affordable learning for the 21st Century. TEL offers college-level classes to high school students, which can transfer to other higher education institutions.

  • Epic Collegiate Academy-Epic Collegiate Academy is a dual credit to degree program. ECA is a pathway of concurrent enrollment courses that is structured to allow eligible high school students to earn a college degree alongside their high school diploma or, if they prefer, at least one year of college (the Plus One path).

Exceptionally Epic Newsletter- Epic’s GT Newsletter

Renzulli Learning- An interactive online system that provides a personalized learning environment for students, which allows teachers to easily differentiate instruction to increase engagements and higher academic performance. 

NuMindsTV- Free, interactive, educational videos for students that are fun, hands-on, and incorporate the principles of creative play, project-based learning, and STEAM: science, technology, engineering, arts, and math.

The Davidson Institute- The Davidson Institute added a page full of free arts and education resources. Students can take virtual tours of museums, such as the Louvre, or learn about coding through Codeacademy's free tutorials.

If you think your students may qualify, please follow these steps:

  • Teacher referral: the teacher of record may request cognitive testing for a student based on these traits- STAR test scores above 85%, advanced OSTP state test scores, or other reasons

  • Parent/Guardian referral: for cognitive testing- reach out to your child's roster teacher to submit a Freshdesk ticket to the Gifted Coordinator

  • Prior Identification: if you have gifted paperwork identifying your child at a prior school, please submit through the enrollment application or send the paperwork to the roster teacher.
