October brings plenty of new opportunities for Epic students and families. In this week’s Orbit Activities Update, learn how you can support students through the Fall Coat Drive, register for International Academic Competitions and prepare for upcoming college, scholarship and financial aid applications. Keep reading for important dates and ways to get involved.
Featured Event: Epic Fall Coat Drive
Oct. 1 – Nov. 6
As temperatures drop, some Oklahoma students may face the colder months without the coats and winter accessories they need. The Epic Charter Schools Fall Coat Drive makes it easy for Epic families and community members to help.
From Oct. 1 through Nov. 6, Epic will collect new coats, hats, gloves and scarves for students across the school community. Donations can be dropped off at any Epic Micro Site or main administrative building. You can also purchase needed items through the Epic Charter Schools Amazon Wish List.
Every donation matters. A warm coat can help a student feel comfortable and ready for the day, while something as simple as a hat, scarf or pair of gloves can make cold weather a little easier.
Whether you donate one item or several, you’re helping an Epic student feel warm, cared for and supported this fall.

Academic Activities and Deadlines
Early Opportunity Scholarship applications will be open by the time October begins. Many universities automatically consider early applicants for merit scholarships, so students should aim to apply for college admission by Nov. 1 to maximize their opportunities.
Oklahoma’s Promise applications will also be available to students in grades 8–12. Seniors must submit their applications by Dec. 31.
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) opens Oct. 1. All graduating students will be required to complete the FAFSA or submit the opt-out form in their parent portal. For help, contact micah.burk@epiccharterschools.org.
Academic Enrichment
Epic students can compete in the 2026-27 International Academic Competitions, featuring geography, history, science, spelling and more. Virtual qualifying exams will be available Oct. 1 – Nov. 13, giving students the chance to challenge themselves from home and potentially advance to regional, national or international championships.
