SVCSB grants full five-year authorization to Epic Charter Schools

OKLAHOMA CITY (April 8, 2024) – The Statewide Virtual Charter School Board today approved a full five-year charter authorization for Epic Charter Schools, Oklahoma’s largest public virtual charter school which serves approximately 30,000 students from PreK-12th grade in all 77 counties statewide.

“Epic has come a long way over the last few years as we have worked to maintain the continued trust of the Statewide Virtual Charter School Board, the Oklahoma State Department of Education and the citizens of Oklahoma, who grant us the honor of providing a modern, high-quality education for children and families who rely on us statewide,” Epic Charter Schools Superintendent Bart Banfield said. “The fact that we have not just recovered, but evolved into a much stronger organization is a testament to the sincere and deliberate work of Epic’s governing board and executive leadership making transparency in all our affairs a top priority that guides everything we do.”

Epic has undergone a complete overhaul of its processes and internal structure, and this year made great strides toward achieving national recognition with the Baldrige Performance Excellence Program. The Oklahoma Quality Foundation recently awarded Epic Charter Schools with a Level 4 Milestone for its work in developing and implementing systems in the areas of leadership, strategic planning, workforce management, customer relations and operations.

Additionally, Epic was recently named a Certified Healthy School by the Oklahoma State Department of Health for its positive impact on the health of employees, families and students.

Epic provides Oklahoma students and families with a modern, tuition-free, online learning experience with one-on-one instruction from an Oklahoma-certified teacher, supplemented by in-person support as needed. Students are empowered to work at their own pace in their environment of choice, select courses based on personal interests and career goals, and tailor class schedules to fit their unique lifestyles.
