Introducing the Orbit Activities Update!

Welcome to the very first edition of The Orbit Activities Update — your new weekly launchpad for all things Epic! Each week, you’ll find a quick guide to upcoming events, activities, field trips and important deadlines, all in one spot.


Whether you’re eager to meet new friends on a field trip, join a club, or just stay ahead of key dates, this update is your ticket to staying connected. Even in a virtual school, these experiences are where our Epic community really comes together — so dive in, get involved and make this week count!

Academic Activities and Deadlines


CCR Support Session: Drop in with questions about college and career planning, ICAP, FAFSA, CareerTech, concurrent enrollment, internships, work-based learning, next step planning, and more. Students in eighth grade and above are especially encouraged to attend!



Virtual Internship Program Enrollment: Students gain real-world, career-focused experience while building essential professional skills through one of three virtual internship tracks focused on industry certification or career exploration.



Work Based Learning Help Sessions: Students enrolled in a Work-Based Learning course can get real-time support while completing assignments in a collaborative Zoom session. Students can also ask their teacher about signing up for future sessions.



CareerTech Information Sessions: Learn about CareerTech opportunities available through various technology centers across the region and get information to help students explore their options.



Prepare U: Time Management for Work & School: Learn practical strategies to balance school, work, and personal responsibilities without feeling overwhelmed.



Kiamichi Tech McAlester 8th Grade Career Quest: Eighth-grade students can explore career pathways and learn more about CareerTech opportunities available through Kiamichi Tech.

Career Conversations: Speak with professionals in a wide variety of fields and career choices.



Gordon Cooper Back to School Night: Connect with Gordon Cooper Technology Center during Back to School Night and learn more about programs and opportunities available to students.

Epic Department Internship Applications: High school students can apply for internships with Epic departments, gaining hands-on experience through meaningful work while building professional skills, exploring careers, and making valuable connections. 



Scholarships and Financial Aid Early Reminder


Early Opportunity Scholarship applications are open now! Many universities offer automatic merit scholarship consideration to students who apply early. Aim to apply for college admission by Nov. 1 to maximize your scholarship opportunities. Learn more here.


Oklahoma's Promise: Oklahoma's Promise Applications are open now! Students in eighth-12th grade can apply today! Seniors must complete their application by Dec 31st. Complete your application here.

Community Service Opportunity


Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma: During this service opportunity, there will be a short facility tour, and then you will be assisting with various needs, including sorting and packaging food.

Field Trips


Gathering Place Park: Students can choose to complete a scavenger hunt by joining a group with their family and other Epic families, or enjoy the park at their own pace. After the scavenger hunt, families can explore and enjoy the park or one of the many playgrounds!



Scissortail Park & Nature Scavenger Hunt: Students and their families will take a scavenger hunt with us within the large city park or within the kids' playground area. We also welcome you to pack a sack lunch and have a picnic lunch together with us at the Play Pavilion!


Clubs and Organizations


Epic offers a variety of student clubs and organizations, giving students opportunities to connect, get involved and explore their interests. From NJHS/NHS, Student Council, and Academic Bowl to Chess Club and ASL Club, there’s something for everyone.
