ASL I

ASL I A serves as the introductory semester for American Sign Language (ASL) 1 and is designed for students with little to no prior experience with ASL. This semester introduces fundamental conversation skills, beginner grammar, and essential vocabulary needed for basic communication. The curriculum emphasizes both expressive and receptive skills, including fingerspelling, visual attention, basic sentence structure, and introductory insights into Deaf culture. Each module focuses on themed vocabulary, such as friends and family, leisure activities, and school or work, while helping students build confidence using ASL in simple conversations. As students move through the modules, they begin developing the foundation needed for continued growth in expressive and receptive language abilities.

ASL I B continues the introductory sequence for American Sign Language (ASL) 1 by helping students expand and apply the foundational skills developed in ASL I A. This semester builds on basic conversation skills, grammar, and vocabulary while encouraging students to communicate with greater accuracy and independence. The curriculum continues to emphasize expressive and receptive skills in American Sign Language, including fingerspelling, clearer visual communication, and continued insights into Deaf culture. Each module deepens student understanding through themed vocabulary connected to topics such as friends and family, leisure activities, and school or work, along with beginner grammar concepts used in more complete exchanges. As students advance, they build on previously acquired knowledge and gain additional opportunities to strengthen their expressive and receptive language abilities in familiar everyday situations.

ASL II

ASL II A builds on the foundational skills developed throughout ASL I and guides students toward greater confidence, accuracy, and fluency in American Sign Language. This semester expands students' vocabulary and grammar knowledge through more complex sentence structures, dialogues, and communication tasks. Students continue to strengthen both expressive and receptive skills while applying ASL in more detailed conversations and real-world situations. The course also supports a deeper exploration of Deaf culture and community values, helping students better understand the connection between language, identity, and respectful communication.

ASL II B continues the ASL II sequence by helping students refine and extend the intermediate skills developed in ASL II A. This semester focuses on using American Sign Language with increased fluency, confidence, and independence. Students expand vocabulary and grammar knowledge through more complex sentence structures, extended dialogues, and meaningful communication activities. They continue to strengthen expressive and receptive skills while improving their ability to understand and produce more natural ASL. Students also engage in deeper exploration of Deaf culture and community values, applying their understanding of language and culture in more thoughtful and connected ways.

FRENCH I

Students will work toward proficiency at a Novice-Low ACTFL level in the following topics: greeting others, introducing themselves, saying the alphabet, answering basic questions, telling time, and talking about destinations and where they are going. Additionally, they will be able to briefly talk about friends, family, pets, home, important dates, seasons, toys, games, food, and colors. There is a strong emphasis on learning to speak the language, as well as read and write it. Additionally, there is an emphasis on gaining cultural understanding. Speaking audio/video assignments are submitted by students as part of the assessment for the course.

FRENCH II

Students will continue to learn to communicate in French; reading, writing, speaking, and culture will be stressed. There is strong emphasis on learning to speak the language, as well as read and write it. Speaking audio/video assignments are submitted by students as part of the assessment for the course.

GERMAN I

German I A In this course students will learn to speak, read, write, understand German, and learn to focus on how they personally learn. Students will also learn about cultural elements pertaining to German speaking countries such as culture, history, geography, and lifestyle. This course includes authentic teaching materials such as popular YouTube videos, pop music, and texts. Speaking audio/video assignments are submitted by students as part of the assessment for the course.

German I B Students review basic German as well as learn more vocabulary and grammatical principles through German Mrchen (fairy tales). Students hear, read, speak, and write basic German in a context that is cheery rather than Grimm. There are specific emphasis on speaking, comprehension, reading, and writing. Speaking audio/video assignments are submitted by students as part of the assessment for the course.

GERMAN II

German II A Students will expand their vocabularies and study more advanced grammatical structures that will lead to effective handling of social situations. Students will continue to gain familiarity with German life and customs. There is strong emphasis on learning to speak the language as well as read and write it. Speaking audio/video assignments are submitted by students as part of the assessment for the course.

German II B This course offers students the opportunity to continue to develop their emerging German fluency and to improve their mastery of important German structures and vocabulary. As they work their way through the course, students will explore many topics and practice reflexive verbs, relative pronouns, the perfect and preterit tenses, and case endings. There is specific emphasis on speaking and comprehension, as well as reading and writing. Speaking audio/video assignments are submitted by students as part of the assessment for the course.

MASKOKE-SEMVNOLE I A (CREEK)

First semester introduction to the Maskoke/Mvskoke (Creek-Seminole) language using a communicative approach. Students develop basic listening and speaking skills through everyday vocabulary, commands, and simple conversations. Foundational grammar, reading, writing, and cultural knowledge are introduced.

Second semester of Level 1. Students expand vocabulary and sentence formation to communicate about daily life, family, and community. Emphasis on real-life conversational skills, core grammar patterns, reading, writing, and cultural understanding.

MASKOKE-SEMVNOLE II (CREEK)

First semester of Level 2. Builds on Level 1 foundation. Students strengthen real-life conversational skills and communicate in more complex sentences across a wider range of topics. Focus on expanding vocabulary, a broader range of topics in communication, reading, and writing, and deeper cultural exploration.

Second semester of Level 2. Students engage in extended conversations, narrate events, and express opinions with increased fluency and accuracy. Continued development of real-life conversation skills, reading, writing, and cultural knowledge.

SPANISH I

Spanish I A In this introductory course, students begin immediately developing their Spanish language abilities. This course utilizes clear, level-appropriate language allowing students to gradually build their language skills. Through engaging content they explore everyday communication and gain insight into cultures across the Spanish-speaking world. Emphasis is placed on understanding and expressing simple ideas in meaningful contexts aligned to Oklahoma standards. Students have the opportunity to practice reading, writing, and speaking in their newly acquired language.

Spanish I B Students continue building abilities in reading, listening, speaking, and writing in Spanish. The lessons taught in Spanish 1A are woven into this second semester course to create a solid foundation and a confident language learner. Students expand their ability to communicate about familiar topics while deepening their understanding of cultural perspectives and practices in the Spanish-speaking world. Students begin to express themselves with greater precision and confidence in this course aligned to Oklahoma standards.

SPANISH II

Spanish 2A builds on skills developed in Spanish 1, emphasizing useful communication. Students develop their ability to understand and communicate in familiar situations using everyday vocabulary and basic grammar structures aligned to Oklahoma standards. Instruction focuses on building overall language ability while introducing cultural perspectives from Spain and Spanish-speaking countries in South America. Students demonstrate their learning through reading, listening, speaking, and writing using simple, practiced language.

Spanish 2B builds on skills developed in Spanish 2A, continuing to emphasize useful communication. Students expand their ability to understand and communicate in familiar situations by incorporating additional vocabulary and grammar structures aligned to Oklahoma standards. Instruction continues to develop overall language ability while deepening cultural understanding of Spain and Spanish-speaking countries in South America. Students demonstrate their learning through reading, listening, speaking, and writing using familiar, practiced language.
