Native American Programs at Epic Charter Schools

Epic’s Native American Programs are designed to support academic success, cultural enrichment, leadership development, and college and career readiness for Native students across Oklahoma. Through tutoring, workshops, student organizations, language revitalization efforts, and community partnerships, we offer students and families comprehensive services rooted in cultural connection and empowerment.

Program Coverage and Regional Support

Our team supports students across five regions in Oklahoma: Northeast, Northwest, Central, Southeast, and Southwest. Each region is served by a dedicated Program Specialist who provides direct assistance and facilitates local programming.

Academic Support

• Materials and Books Available: Students may request academic resources including grade-level curriculum, ACT/SAT/ASVAB test preparation, and graphing calculators. Indigenous-authored books and study guides (Pre-K through 12th grade) are also available for checkout.

• One-on-One Support: Tutoring and Study Hall sessions are available virtually for students needing individual support.

Cultural Enrichment

• Native Language Courses for Credit: Students may fulfill their world language requirement through virtual Native language classes offered in partnership with tribal language departments.

• Social Dance / Powwow: An annual cultural gathering where students learn about powwow and stomp dance traditions and participate in a cultural celebration.

• Student Wellness and Culture: Activities designed to help students explore and express their cultural heritage through storytelling, peer discussion, and traditional practices.

Workshops and Cultural Camps Include: Students participate in hands-on cultural arts activities such as making corn husk dolls, moccasins, seed and pony bead necklaces, loom beading, ribbon skirts and shirts, gourd rattles, and long bone necklaces. Each activity is designed to help students understand the cultural significance behind the items they create. These pieces can be worn or used in traditional dances, ceremonies, and family celebrations, fostering pride in cultural heritage and personal connection to tradition.

Presentations and Field Trips

• Classroom Presentations: Our team delivers engaging presentations on topics such as Indian Removal, Code Talkers, sovereignty, and tribal histories.

• Tribal and Cultural Site Visits: Students have opportunities to attend field trips to tribal museums, cultural centers, and virtual experiences across Oklahoma.

Student Clubs and Organizations

Epic offers culturally based student organizations from Pre-K through high school to promote leadership, cultural identity, and student voice.

• Warrior Book Club (Pre-K to 1st grade): Weekly storytelling and literacy activities rooted in Native authorship and cultural tradition.

• Notable Natives (2nd to 3rd grade): Students explore leadership and values through weekly discussions about Native American role models.

• Native American Club (4th to 5th grade): A space for students to share, explore, and celebrate tribal cultures through creative expression and dialogue.

• Jr. Native American Student Organization (6th to 8th grade): A leadership and cultural development club offering workshops and heritage-based activities.

• Next Generation Club (9th to 12th grade): Focuses on leadership training and preparing students to carry forward the values and legacies of Native leaders.

• Native American Student Organization (9th to 12th grade): Offers opportunities for discussion, leadership, language learning, and connection with Native communities.

• Whole Health Club (9th to 12th grade): Teaches physical, emotional, and mental health through the BRAVE curriculum, delivered from an Indigenous perspective.

Native Student College and Career Support

Epic’s Native American Programs provides College and Career Advisors for our Native students in grades 8 through 12. Each student is assigned to one of our advisors, Kylee Montgomery or Corbin Dewitt, who provide direct support in completing the Individual Career and Academic Plan (ICAP)—a graduation requirement for all students in Oklahoma.

Tribal and Community Resource Support

Epic’s Native American Programs team also serves as a bridge to vital community and tribal resources across Oklahoma.

• Assistance Requests: We help families navigate food insecurity, utility assistance, transportation access, health resources, and more. Many families are unfamiliar with available support or which tribal boundaries they reside in. Our team works directly with families to ensure their needs are met and help them access services through tribal programs or local assistance networks.

• Tribal Liaison Support: Families have access to a dedicated tribal liaison who partners with Epic departments and tribal offices to address barriers and provide guidance throughout the process.

• Resource Referrals and Partnerships: We maintain strong relationships with tribal and community agencies such as the Absentee Shawnee 477 Program and Choctaw Nation Youth Services to ensure timely referrals and student-centered support.

Indian Education Parent Committee

We invite families to become active participants in our program by joining the Indian Education Parent Committee. These monthly Zoom meetings are open to all parents and guardians of Native American students enrolled at Epic. Together, we create a supportive, student-focused community committed to academic growth, cultural enrichment, and leadership development.

Needs Assessment

The Indian Education parent committee and staff request your input and assistance in planning our program for our  Title VI application. Closes  December 2025

Does My Student Qualify for Indian Education Services?

Students must qualify under the federal Title VI Indian Education Program to participate in Epic’s Native American Programs.

Eligibility Requirements:

• The student must be an enrolled member of a federally or state-recognized tribe or

• Be the biological child or grandchild of a tribal member who holds a tribal enrollment card or CDIB (Certificate of Degree of Indian Blood) card

How to Qualify:

1. Complete the 506 Form (ED 506 Indian Student Eligibility Certification Form)

2. Upload a copy of a tribal card or enter the tribal enrollment number on the form

3. Submit the form through the parent portal or during the ILP process with your Epic teacher

Students with a verified form already on file do not need to resubmit. Teachers can verify enrollment using alerts in PowerSchool.

• Receive Our Monthly Newsletter: Families enrolled in our Native American Programs receive a monthly digital newsletter that includes upcoming events, club calendars, parent meeting reminders, cultural resources, student opportunities, photos, highlights, and important updates. It’s the best way to stay informed about everything happening in the program.

• Direct Communication from Specialists: Our regional specialists also stay in touch with families through email and text, providing personalized support, reminders, and local opportunities specific to your area.
